Progress on construction of the New e-learning Complex

6 November 2020, 1:32 am
E-learning continues to find favor among many parents in Kenya, especially now, after the President-H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed that the other basic education classes (non-candidates), would be resuming classes probably in January 2021. Mekaela Academies continues to offer unparalleled, high quality, and affordable online learning to learners from the region and beyond. In light of this, the construction of our ultra-modern, state-of-the-art e-learning Complex is in full swing with the building taking shape only four weeks since the groundbreaking ceremony.
Interior walls almost complete.
The contractor is on course to deliver the complete building in a month and a half from now. This e-learning complex will revolutionize how online learning in Kenya is offered and is geared at ensuring that we're able to reach out to as many learners. Our team of highly qualified and experienced teachers is already working on the academic content on our online learning platform.
Construction Workers hard at work!
The e-learning complex is being constructed with the support of well-wishers and partners of Mekaela Academies. We're grateful to Josef Seibel Africa and ROMIKA Shoe Factory, for partnering and agreeing to host our e-learning complex within their premises.

Empowering our Students with Tablets for e-Learning.

24 October 2020, 9:50 am
Due to the disruption of the academic calendar 2020, brought about by the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, Mekaela Academies developed a unique online learning platform meant to bridge the gap between teachers and students who were at home. Online learning has the advantage of creating virtual classrooms that aren't confined by physical infrastructure and learners can study at their own pace at the comfort of their homes. In light of the above, we discovered that access to good quality internet-enabled devices was a challenge to many of our learners. Therefore in partnership with Watoto e.v. we managed to get over 100 tablets donated to our candidate classes, i.e. Standard 7 and 8 & Form 3 and 4. The devices were issued to the learners in a ceremony held at Lulu Boys High School and officiated by our Managing Director Mr. Musili, the Administration & Education Manager Mr. Kalisa, and all the Headteachers; in the presence of parents/guardians. These devices did put a smile on many of the learner's faces and have made it easier for them to access academic content.

It has been two weeks since the groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Mekaela eLearning Complex site, and a lot of work has been done by the contractor. The able team of construction workers has been on the job ever since and this weekend marks a major milestone, the completion of the foundation and placement of the concrete slab.

This milestone marks the commencement of the next phase, which would involve the construction of the walls for the e-learning complex. The contractor is determined to have the complex fully functional in two (2) months.

A 3D Plan for our Online eLearning Complex

17 October 2020, 10:03 am
Mekaela Academies is pioneering the use of the state-of-the-art equipment in the Digital or Online Learning frontier. We recently broke the ground for the construction of a one-of-a-kind e-learning complex, that upon completion would be able to serve over 10,000 students from across the region and internationally. This is just a sneak preview of the 3D Front-view plan for the complex.

Ground Breaking Ceremony for the New E-Learning Complex

17 October 2020, 9:28 am
On 9th October 2020, our Founders Stefan & Micki Wentzel participated in the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the new Ultra-modern, State-of-the-art e-Learning Complex. The Complex located in Ukunda, Kwale County along the Ukunda-Ramisi Road, will be a unique addition to the already existing schools under the Mekaela Academies Umbrella. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of our Group Managing Director Mr. Elijah Musili; our Administration & Education Manager Mr. Shadrack Kalisa and teachers from both our Primary and High Schools. The Construction of this new Complex has begun and is expected to be fully commissioned in the next few months. E-learning has continued to be an integral component in the education sector globally especially this year, due to COVID-19. We are therefore pioneering this e-learning concept locally, with a view of having seamless education in the "New Normal". We are grateful to all our partners who have made all this possible and ensured that Mekaela Academies continues to Tower Beyond The Horizons in offering unparalleled & High-Quality Education.
The COVID-19 pandemic has destabilized the world and caused havoc to a great population. Schools were on the receiving end, with movement restrictions and lock-downs disrupting the academic calendars. After the shutdown of Schools in Kenya by the Ministry of Education in early March this year, schools reopened on 12th October 2020, with the candidate classes being the first batch to resume classes. These included pupils and students from Grade 4, Standard 8, and Form 4. The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health developed strict COVID-19 Control and Prevention Protocols that needed to be enforced prior to the reopening of schools and continuously after reopening. At Mekaela Academies we took the task to ensure that we met all these guidelines in order to safeguard the lives and well-being of our learners, teachers, support staff, and parents. We have mounted enough Hand-washing stations around the school, Strict enforcement of Temperature checks for every visitor, parent, teacher, and student who comes through our gates, and an all-day face-mask policy. We have a desk adjacent to the gate where all those coming in have their names and temperature readings captured. The school has liaised with the nearby Private and Public Health facility to be on stand-by in the event we have someone who meets the case-definition of a COVID-19 infected person. A lot of sensitization has taken place for our students and staff on all the COVID-19 Disease Control and Prevention protocols. This is an on-going process and we strive to ensure that all the relevant stakeholders are involved in the fight against COVID-19 in our schools.
